I put it off as long as I could.....

Today, Friday the 13th, started off not so great!  Actually, last night my computer started doing funny things when you touched the mouse pad.  I had lots to do including prepare a power point presentation for today.  I finally was able to restart an old computer that we have and finish the project.  It took much longer than I expected.  I also was intending to workout first thing but just didn't have time.  I went to my Pilates class with Scott Miner at The Loft and felt some better.  Straight to MUSC after Pilates where I was honored to speak to a great group of female dental students (oh yeah, 1 male was among the group).  They were wonderful and inspiring.  It brought back many memories of my dental school days (in the same classroom) 24 years ago.  I wish all of those women and MAN good luck.  If you are as lucky as I have been with your career, you have a lot of great years to look forward to.
After the presentation, I was hungry.  My protein shake and peach was wearing off.  I ran by the office to see a patient who was having an emergency and then went to Paige's Incredible Edibles (PIE).  Wonderful turkey Brie sandwich.  Enough about food, I needed to work out but just wasn't feeling it.  I picked up the girls from school and we went by C Wonder (newly opened store on King St.). The girls had a blast.  We got home and it was pouring rain and all I wanted to do was take a nap.  I went to my room and started said nap.  Several hours later, Robb was getting dinner and I realized that if I ate dinner, I would not work out until later. SOOOOOOO... I put my tennis shoes on and started the workout.  Today the workout included a segment where I ran for 8 minutes without stopping.  2 months ago, I would have been sick to my stomach thinking about it.  I started with trepidation but was soon realizing that I was able to do it. I walked 5, ran 5, walk 2, ran 8, walk 2, ran 3, then cool down.  At the end of my cool down, I ran another 1:30 at a much faster rate.  I was so happy at the end.
Everyone who has talked to me about this blog or what I am doing has been so kind and encouraging.  They all tell me that the beginning is the hardest time and once you get going, it becomes easier.  It is true and I do believe.  Every time someone tells me that they are inspired or encouraged by what I am doing it makes me want to work harder and stay on pace.    THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!  I don't want to turn 50 (UGH!) but when I do, if I can say that I have accomplished my goal, it will make it a little less painful.
Woohoo!!  My goal this weekend is to do 5.3 tomorrow and 6.1 on Sunday.  Let you know how it goes!

  1. My wish for you is that you not only continue to conquer these fears of this challenge you've taken on, but that you find the inspiration to continue until these challenges are a part of your lifestyle that you look forward to doing. I wish that you can embrace 50 knowing that you are better than 49 and that you look forward to 51 knowing you can be better still.
